William F. Pickard, PhD, senior professor of electrical and systems engineering in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, has co-edited a special issue of the Proceedings of the IEEE that addresses intermittency, one of the major technological problems with renewable sources of energy, such as solar and wind power.

A new marker of Alzheimer’s disease can predict how rapidly a patient’s memory and other mental abilities will decline after the disorder is diagnosed, Rawan Tarawneh, MD, found while a postdoctoral research associate at the School of Medicine. The new data suggest that VILIP-1 may be a better predictor of Alzheimer’s progression than other markers.

The North vs. South Champion Chef Competition Feb. 28 paired WUSTL Dining Services chefs and students from Team North — representing The Village, Millbrook Apartments and off-campus housing — against Team South, representing the South 40. The teams prepared dishes that followed the ChooseMyPlate.gov and Connie’s Choice guidelines for healthy eating.
