Medical Center takes next step toward redevelopment?

BJC HealthCare, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine are taking another step forward in the future development of the Washington University Medical Center. The vision is to transform the campus over the next 10 years through renovations and new construction.

Anthropologists’ work prompts Republic of Congo to enlarge national park?

Research by WUSTL anthropologist Crickette Sanz, PhD, and colleague David Morgan, PhD, has spurred the Republic of Congo to enlarge its Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park boundaries to include the Goualougo Triangle. The Goualougo Triangle is a remote, pristine forest that is home to at least 14 communities of “naïve” chimpanzees with little exposure to humans.

Nowlis installed as August A. Busch Jr. Distinguished Professor of Marketing

Stephen M. Nowlis, PhD, was installed Feb. 23 as the August A. Busch Jr. Distinguished Professor of Marketing in Olin Business School. Nowlis joined Olin Business School in July 2010 after spending many years at Arizona State University, where he was the AT&T Distinguished Professor of Marketing.

Art and the Mind-Brain talk March 7

Art may be subjective, but it is not entirely so. Aesthetic interest also can be understood in terms of a work’s power to engage cognitive and perceptual systems common to all human brains. This is the central premise of neuroaesthetics, an emerging field that draws on neuroscience, psychology and philosophy to explore questions relating to art. It is also the premise behind an exhibit in the Kemper Art Museum.

Nearly 200 register during campus bone marrow drive

There are 195 more potential donors in the national “Be The Match” bone marrow registry as a result of a campus drive Feb. 29. Adding more diverse members increases the likelihood that all patients will find a life-saving match. This is one of the reasons WUSTL organizers decided to launch an even larger, more visible drive this year.

Basketball teams end season with losses March 3

The No. 19-ranked men’s basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 72-68 loss to No. 23 North Central College (Ill.) in the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship. The No. 9-ranked women’s basketball team lost 57-55 at No. 22 Centre College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Danville, Ky.
