Pow Wow to celebrate American Indian culture

The 22nd annual Pow Wow, a festival of American Indian cultures, will be held Saturday, March 31, in the WUSTL Field House. This event, hosted by the Kathryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies at the Brown School, is free and open to the public. Participants can enjoy dancing, singing, drumming, arts, crafts and food.

Concert features songs of love and marriage

Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata consists of four movements based on texts from The Song of Songs, the Biblical book most explicitly dedicated to the joys of earthly love. On Sunday, April 1, the university’s Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will present the Wedding Cantata as the centerpiece of “Many Waters,” a free concert of songs about love and marriage.

Program inspires young women to become orthopedic surgeons, engineers

The WUSTL Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is hosting young women from area high schools to encourage them to pursue careers in orthopedic surgery and engineering. Women currently comprise only 7 percent of the professional workforce in these technical fields.

‘Brazil Rising’ symposium at WUSTL April 4-6

A symposium focusing on culture, law and development in Brazil will be held April 4-6 at WUSTL. Events — which include a keynote lecture, film, and dance and percussion workshop — are free and open to the public, with the exception of the April 6 book discussion, which is open only to WUSTL faculty and graduate students.

Pioneering medical anthropologist to lecture

Arthur Kleinman, MD, one of the world’s leading medical anthropologists, will speak as part of the Assembly Series. His lecture, “The Quest for Moral Wisdom in Academic Life: Why William James Still Matters for the Art of Living,” will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in Graham Chapel.

‘Carnaval’ cultural show takes the stage this weekend

“Carnaval,” a yearly cultural show organized by WUSTL’s Association of Latin American Students, is being performed at 7 p.m. tonight  and tomorrow in Edison Theatre. More than 130 students are participating in skits, dances and musical acts to highlight the beauty, creativity and richness of Latin American culture.

Men’s tennis sweeps Wheaton

The No. 11 men’s tennis team remained perfect at home this season with a 9-0 victory over Wheaton College (Ill.) March 24. The Bears (7-5) host Illinois Wesleyan University at noon Saturday, March 31.
