Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, alum Mike Peters to deliver Commencement address

Mike Peters, the 1981 Pulitzer Prize winner for editorial cartooning and creator of the award-winning cartoon strip Mother Goose & Grimm, will give this year’s Commencement address. The 151st Commencement will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, in Brookings Quadrangle. Peters earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from WUSTL in 1965.

Kemper celebrates Community Day Saturday

On Saturday, March 31, the Kemper Art Museum will host Community Day, a free afternoon of activities including tours, performances, art-making and a reading from An Eye for Color: The Story of Josef Albers.

Colonoscopy prep as important as the procedure

What happens on the day before a colonoscopy may be just as important as the colon-screening test itself. Gastroenterologists at the School of Medicine have found that when patients don’t adequately prep for the test by cleansing their colons, doctors often can’t see potentially dangerous pre-cancerous lesions.

WUSTL runners ‘Take Steps’ for kids??

More than 600 took part in the 4th annual “Take Steps for Kids" 5K and one-mile fundraiser March 24 on the Danforth Campus. The event surpassed its fundraising goal and raised more than $8,200 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri.

WUSTL students interested in a unique summer internship experience as a “mini-CEO” at Answers.com, headquarted in the University City Loop, are invited to attend a Career Center event at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the lower level of Mallinckrodt Center.

Ann Lucas Birle, research historian, Thomas Jefferson Foundation, will speak about her book Thomas Jefferson’s Granddaughter in Queen Victoria’s England and about the Jefferson books in the WUSTL library. CarFit event for seniors Saturday

From 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, occupational therapy students will hold a CarFit event in the 4444 Forest Park Ave. East parking lot, near the intersection of Forest Park and Newstead avenues. Students will check to ensure older adults have properly adjusted vehicles for safety.

Three WUSTL swimmers earn All-America honors

Junior Brendan Morin and freshmen Sara Taege and Zane Turpin earned All-America honorable mention honors at the  NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis. Taege placed seventh in both the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley; Turpin finished 11th in the men’s 1,650 freestyle; and Morin placed 13th in the 100 butterfly.
