Seismologists, including WUSTL’s Doug Wiens, PhD, have just returned from the Western Pacific where they laid instruments for a seismic survey that will follow water chemically bound to, or trapped, in the down-diving Pacific Plate at the Mariana trench. That’s the same trench into which Avatar director James Cameron is poised to plunge.

Saunders is the author of The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, a wickedly funny and wildly original political allegory.

Emergency physician Chris Carpenter, MD, is conducting a study of patients in the emergency room who are older than 65 and at increased risk of having dementia. He wants to determine if referring suspected Alzheimer’s patients to an outreach agency will reduce frequent returns to the emergency department and help them remain independent longer.
