Patients with rare diseases to get DNA sequenced at no charge

Scientists at the School of Medicine, including Jimmy Lin, PhD, are reaching out as partners to patient advocacy groups and offering to decode the DNA of 99 patients with rare diseases to help find the genetic alterations responsible for their illnesses.

Vive l’ Afrique! A celebration of African culture

Lucy Ferriss reads for Writing Program

The Lost Daughter is the sixth and most recent novel by St. Louis native Lucy Ferriss. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, Ferriss, writer-in-residence at Trinity College in Hartford, returns to her hometown to read from her work for The Writing Program in Arts & Sciences’ spring Reading Series.

Free vehicle inspection for spring break travelers

The WU Police Department and Parking Services, in partnership with Hartmann’s Towing, is sponsoring a free vehicle inspection service to students, faculty and staff from noon-2:30 tomorrow, March 3, in the lower level of Millbrook Garage. The staff will check tire pressure, fluid levels, wipers and head- and taillights.

Gephardt Inst. holds open forum on 2012 election activities on campus

The Gephardt Institute will hold an open discussion about plans for the 2012 election year at 4 p.m. Monday, March 5, in the lower level of Mallinckrodt Center. The forum will help the institute coordinate activities through fall 2012, including voter registration, speakers and panel discussions on issues, election watch parties and other programming.

Baseball hosts four games this weekend

After a 1-3 start, the baseball team looks to rebound at home with four games at Kelly Field. The Bears host Buena Vista University at 3 p.m. Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3; and College of St. Scholastica at noon Saturday, March 3, and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 4.
