Medical researchers to study what viruses make kids sick

Not all viruses make us sick. But which ones are friends and which ones are foes? School of Medicine researchers, led by Gregory Storch, MD, have received a five-year, $3.3 million grant to study children with weakened immune systems to identify the viruses that make them sick.

Trzeciak named university librarian, succeeds Baker

Jeffrey G. Trzeciak, university librarian at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, has been named university librarian, effective July 1. Trzeciak replaces Shirley K. Baker, vice chancellor for scholarly resources and dean of University Libraries, who will retire after 23 years at WUSTL June 30.

Newest Pritzker Prize winner lectures tonight at Sam Fox School 

Wang Shu received word Monday he had won the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize, making him the first Chinese citizen to receive what is arguably architecture’s highest honor. At 6:30 p.m. tonight, Feb. 29, in Steinberg Auditorium, Shu will discuss his work for the Sam Fox School’s Public Lecture Series.

Free vehicle inspection for spring break travelers

WUPD and Parking Services will sponsor a free vehicle inspection between noon-2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3. Vehicles can be brought to the lower level of Millbrook Garage, where tire pressure, fluid levels, wipers and head- and taillights will be checked.

Men’s basketball hosts first two rounds of NCAA tourney

The first two rounds of the men’s NCAA Division III basketball tournament will be held here Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and North Central College will square off at 5:30 p.m. Friday, followed by WUSTL taking on Buena Vista University at 7:30 p.m.
