WUSTL has been named one of the top universities for producing Peace Corps volunteers. The Peace Corps recently released the “Top Colleges” list, which ranks WUSTL No. 21 among medium-sized (5,000-15,000 undergraduates) universities. Currently, 24 alumni are serving as Peace Corps volunteers.

School of Medicine scientists have made a surprising discovery about the origin of diabetes. Their research suggests that problems controlling blood sugar — the hallmark of diabetes — may begin in the intestines. The new study, in mice, may upend long-held theories about the causes of the disease.

Dance students in the Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences get things moving as part of an advanced master class led by acclaimed improvisational dancer Kirstie Simson. Described as “a force of nature” by The New York Times, Simson was on campus as the PAD’s 2012 Marcus Residency Dance Artist.

Readings also by Aaron Samuels, WUSTL alumnus and nationally renowned spoken word poet. Grand Slam was awarded “Event of the Year” last year by Student Union. Free. Due to an unavoidable conflict, a talk slated for Saturday, Feb. 18, as part of the Master of Liberal Art (MLA) Seminar Series, has been rescheduled. The talk, “The Works of Mercy,” by Daniel Bornstein, PhD, the Darrow Professor of Catholic Studies and director of the religious studies program in Arts & Sciences, will now take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in January Hall, Room 110.

The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams had five individuals win their respective events at the Fighting Scot Invitational at Monmouth College Feb 11. Both teams return to action today at the Illinois College Alumni Classic in Jacksonville, Ill.
