Sending a new generation of bold, creative teachers

WUSTL has joined a national experiment to develop a new generation of college science and engineering faculty, one equipped to excel in the classroom, as well as the lab. The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) is a network of 25 research universities  formed to prepare science graduate students to be as bold and creative in the classroom as they are in their research.

Black Anthology production: ‘Lest We Forget’

Members of WU Style Step perform a rally scene during Black Anthology in Edison Theatre. Now in its 22nd year, the annual student-run production educates people about African-American culture and highlights important issues. This year’s production, “Lest We Forget,” focused on the tumultuous 1960s.

Medical employees honored for fitness efforts

School of Medicine employees were focused on health Feb. 3 with the Health Happening health and wellness fair at the Eric P. Newman Education Center, where more than 40 vendors provided information and free screenings. In addition, employees who participated in the Tread the Med “Be a Walk Star” 100-day walking campaign were honored at a reception.

‘Rare Books’ lecture at Steinberg Hall Feb. 16

Michael F. Suarez, DPhil, will speak on “Rare Books in the Digital World” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in Steinberg Hall Auditorium on the Danforth Campus. Suarez directs the Rare Book School, an independent, nonprofit institute for the study of books, printing and related subjects located at the University of Virginia.

Apply now to spend three weeks in China

Frank Yin, PhD, ambassador to Tsinghua University, a partner institution in the McDonnell International Scholars Academy, invites WUSTL faculty to explore China this summer, while helping Tsinghua students learn English. An intensive English language camp for Tsinghua students runs June 26 to July 13. The application deadline for teachers is Feb. 22.

Senior breaks own school record at track invite

Senior Erica Jackey broke her own school record in the 800 meters to help the WUSTL women finish fourth at the Bob Keck Invite Feb. 4 at Illinois Wesleyan University. The WUSTL men’s team finished seventh. Both teams compete Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Fighting Scots Invitational at Monmouth College.
