NASA names Arvidson adviser on Curiosity, the new Mars rover

NASA has announced that Raymond E. Arvidson, PhD, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences in Arts & Sciences, has been selected to be a participating scientist on the Mars Science Laboratory, a mission to land and operate a rover named Curiosity.

John Stezaker opens at Kemper Friday, Jan. 27

Classic movie stills, vintage postcards, book illustrations and other found materials are at the heart of the work of contemporary British artist John Stezaker. Beginning Friday, Jan. 27, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum opens John Stezaker, the artist’s first major solo museum exhibition.

Immune system memory cells have trick for self preservation

After defeating an infection, the immune system creates a memory of the attacker to make it easier to eliminate in the future. Researchers at the School of Medicine have discovered an important component of the immune system’s strategy for preserving such immunological memories.

WUSTL expands tornado warning system

This spring, the WUSTLAlerts emergency notification system will change the way it alerts the university community of tornado warnings in and approaching St. Louis City and County. In addition to sirens and Alertus beacons, community members will also receive emails, pop-up messages on computer screens and cable TV overrides.

Obituary: Ann Rehme, academic adviser, 60

Ann Behan Rehme, academic adviser at the Sever Institute in the School of Engineering & Applied Science, died Dec. 30, 2011, of pancreatic cancer. She was 60.
