Ervin Scholars Program celebrates 25 years

The John B. Ervin Scholars Program, a nationally pre-eminent program that fosters and enhances the overall quality and diversity of WUSTL’s student body, is recognizing its 25th anniversary this weekend. More than 1,000 alumni, family and friends of the program are expected to participate in “Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence: Our Names and Our Stories.”

Computers may help patients restore movement after stroke

New research from scientists at the School of Medicine suggests that patients whose mobility has been limited by stroke may one day use their imagination and a computer link to move their hands. Eric Leuthardt, MD, is the study’s senior author.

Students return from studying biofuels in Brazil

This summer, WUSTL students participating in the International Experience in Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering went to Brazil to study its biofuel industry. Applications are being accepted for next year’s trip to Australia. Topics to be studied are coal, coal-seam gas, wastewater treatment, biofuels and the geothermal industry.

Brookings Quadrangle bench to be dedicated for McLeod

The Black Alumni Council will host a dedication of a Brookings Quadrangle bench in honor of Jim McLeod at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. A reception will follow in South Brookings, Room 100. The bench was donated in memory of McLeod by members and friends of the Black Alumni Council.

Volleyball remains unbeaten

The volleyball team improved to 10-0 by winning four matches over top 25 opponents at the Washington University/ASICS National Invitational. Outside hitters Meghan Byrne and Drew Hargrave and libero Kelly Pang were named to the all-tournament team. WUSTL next travels to the Wittenberg University Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15.
