Arvidson offers updates on Mars rover missions

With all the fanfare about Mars rover Curiosity landing safely on the Red Planet Aug. 6, it’s easy to forget that there’s already a rover on Mars — an older, smaller cousin set to accomplish a feat unprecedented in the history of solar system exploration. Raymond E. Arvidson, PhD, is playing key roles in both Mars missions.

Interdisciplinary seed grants awarded by vice chancellor for research

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research has announced the six winners of the 2012 University Research Strategic Alliance grants. The grants offer a one-year, $25,000 award to full-time faculty members at WUSTL who begin a new collaboration with investigators from different disciplines.

Law professor testifies before House subcommittee on retrospective review of rules

This summer, Ronald Levin, JD, the William R. Orthwein Distinguished Professor of Law, testified before the House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Courts, Commercial and Administrative Law regarding the “retrospective review” process for federal agency rules.

Steven Strasberg, MD, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award/Gold Medallion of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.

Coxe, professor emeritus of neurological surgery, 86

William S. Coxe, MD, a neurological surgeon known for his superb surgical skills and dedication to patients, died Aug. 2, 2012. He was 86.

University College will host a Preview Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in Holmes Lounge in Ridgley Hall. 20 named to UAA Presidents Scholar-Athlete Team

WUSTL had a conference-best 20 student-athletes named to the fourth annual University Athletic Association (UAA) Presidents Scholar-Athlete Team. The team is composed of 74 student-athletes representing all eight UAA member institutions across 12 men’s sports and 10 women’s sports.
