McLeod’s Way, a landscaped gathering place along the path from the Forsyth Underpass to the Clock Tower on the South 40, will be dedicated Saturday, Sept. 15, in memory of Jim McLeod, WUSTL’s beloved vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, who died in 2011.

Orientation at WUSTL extends much longer than the five-day Bear Beginnings welcome. Through the WUSA (Washington University Student Associate) program, incoming students are paired with upperclass peer mentors for the first year. The university is increasing composting opportunities on the Danforth Campus through pilot programs. Beginning in August, waste composting will be offered at Brown and Goldfarb halls of the Brown School, Anheuser-Busch Hall of the School of Law and Facilities’ Millbrook Building.

More than 1,700 new students move onto the Danforth Campus starting at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23. Five full days of orientation, better known as Bear Beginnings, take place through Monday, Aug. 27. Upperclass students will move in throughout the weekend, beginning 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The men’s and women’s swimming teams earned 2011-12 Scholar All-America Team honors, as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. In addition, the teams had six student-athletes receive Scholar All-America honorable mention recognition.
