American Meat film, panel discussion explore   agricultural industry ??alternatives

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Graham Meriwether will be at WUSTL for a screening of his 2011 documentary American Meat, which promotes sustainable, ethical, grass-based agriculture. Following the screening, Meriwether will moderate a panel discussion featuring diverse opinions on cattle ranching and meat processing practices. The event begins at 6 p.m. in Simon Hall, May Auditorium.??

Three receive awards to pursue innovative ideas

Professors Andrew Yoo, Robert Gereau and Michael Bruchas have been awarded grants from the National Institutes of Health Common Fund to pursue visionary research that has the potential to transform science and improve human health.

Jennifer Smith named 2013 Eisenhower Fellow

Jennifer R. Smith, PhD, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, is one of eight U.S. citizens selected to go abroad in 2013 as an Eisenhower USA fellow. Smith will spend a month in India next summer on an intensive individualized professional program, working on innovative ideas in higher education.

October is Car-Free Month; bike or walk to work

Faculty, staff and students commuting to all WUSTL campuses are encouraged to leave their sedans, SUVs and minivans in the garage and go “car-free” for the month of October. Car-Free Month activities include free bicycle tune-ups, a group bike ride and a Car-Free Challenge.

held for women students

“Composing a Life,” a lively, interactive panel discussion for graduate and undergraduate women, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Holmes Lounge. The panel features five women of diverse ages, careers and interests who will discuss their stories and post-graduation choices.

Women’s soccer ties No. 1 Emory 2­­–2 in double OT

The No. 8 women’s soccer team posted a 2-2 double overtime tie against No. 1 Emory University Saturday at Francis Field. WUSTL is 9-1-1, 1-0-1 in the University Athletic Association. WUSTL continues its five-game homestand with a pair of conference contests at Francis Field this weekend: New York University at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow followed by Brandeis University at 11 a.m. Sunday.
