WUSTL scientists to develop battery management system for electric-car batteries

The U.S. Department of Energy announced that a team of WUSTL engineers will receive funding to design a battery management system for lithium-ion batteries that will guarantee their longevity, safety and performance. These technologies could revolutionize the way Americans store and use energy in electric vehicles, the electrical grid and beyond.

Chaitman, WUSTL police corporal, 32

Corporal Kimberly K. Chaitman of the Washington University Police Department died unexpectedly at her home in O’Fallon, Mo., Aug. 5, 2012. She was 32.

Forsyth Boulevard will be reopened to vehicular traffic at noon Thursday, Aug. 16. Forsyth and the underpass to the South 40 will remain closed to pedestrian traffic until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

Volleyball receives AVCA Team Academic Award

The volleyball team was one of a program-record 533 teams who received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 season. WUSTL boasted a team GPA of 3.514 during the last school year.
