The WUSTL community will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with several university-wide events, including a student-organized memorial service, a panel discussion launching a cultural archives project and a discussion addressing the conflict between national security and civil liberties in the past 10 years.

German artist and photographer Thomas Demand will discuss his work Wednesday, Sept. 14, as part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts’ fall Public Lecture Series. The talk is held in conjunction with the exhibition Precarious Worlds: Contemporary Art from Germany, which opens at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum tonight. WUSTL is implementing two new programs this fall to expand and improve its emergency preparedness: a “My Emergency Preparedness Information” page in HRMS, on which employees can confirm their emergency contact information; and the designation of emergency response roles to department employees in the event of an emergency situation.

WUSTL’s American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant is now accepting applications from junior faculty for pilot project awards through 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. The program provides seed money for new cancer-related projects initiated by junior faculty members. Awards of up to $30,000 will be made for one year.

The women’s soccer team outscored its opponents 18-1 en route to three victories in the opening week of the season. The Bears defeated Missouri Baptist University 7-0 , Calvin College 8-1 and Whitworth College 3-0. The Bears host the Washington University Classic this weekend, taking on DePauw University at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept 10, and Rhodes College at 4 p.m. Sunday Sept. 11.
