Kemper Museum celebrates art this Saturday

Art can be challenging, engaging, uplifting and enlightening. It also can be fun. On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum will host Community Day, an all-ages afternoon of games, storytelling, art-making, workshops and tours led by museum curators and student docents. The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and open to the public.

The Department of Neurological Surgery at the School of Medicine celebrates its 100th anniversary this month. Over the past century, it has become internationally known for its groundbreaking basic and clinical research, dedication to patient care and outstanding training of residents.

PHD Comics creator to speak for Assembly Series

Graduate school can be a lonely, stressful place, but that doesn’t mean you can’t laugh about it. At 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, the Graduate Professional Council, with assistance from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and the Assembly Series, will screen The PHD Movie in Edison Theatre. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Jorge Cham, PhD, creator of the online comic strip that inspired the movie.

CNISS fall lecture series kicks off today

The Center for New Institutional Social Science (CNISS) Fall Seminar Series kicks off today at
1 p.m. with a lecture by social policy expert John Gal, PhD, dean of the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Gal will present “Immigration and the Categorical Welfare State in Israel” in Seigle Hall Room 301.

Football suffers first loss

The football team suffered a 20-17 loss to No. 21 Wittenberg University Sept. 17. Wittenberg broke open a 10-10 game in the fourth quarter with 10 unanswered points to snap the Bears’ seven-game home winning streak dating back to the 2009 season.
