Opportunity verges on new Mars discovery

The Mars rover Opportunity, which was designed to operate for three months and to rove less than a mile, has now journeyed more than seven years crossing more than 21 miles. Today, thanks to WUSTL scientists, the rover is poised on rock that may yield yet more evidence of a wet Mars.

Picture this: Summer internships? ‘Just ask me’

The Career Center encouraged students to network with each other and talk about their summer travels, internships and community service during a Sept. 8 event outside Danforth University Center. After filling out a career interest survey, students were treated to free ice cream and a T-shirt that says ‘Just ask me about my summer.’

Sanchez named Sicard Distinguished Professor of Vascular Surgery

Luis A. Sanchez, MD, has been named the inaugural Gregorio A. Sicard Distinguished Professor of Vascular Surgery at the School of Medicine. Sanchez, the recently named chief of the section of vascular surgery at the School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, is highly regarded for his expertise in vascular and endovascular surgery.

Food activist Gustafson to speak for Assembly Series

Food activist Ellen Gustafson, a former United Nations spokesperson for the World Food Program, will give the annual Olin Fellows Lecture as part of the Assembly Series at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. Her talk, “A New Understanding of Hunger, Obesity and the Food System,” will be held in the Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom in Anheuser-Busch Hall.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s “Ponzi scheme” charge and Florida Sen. Mark Rubio’s assertion that Social Security is unsustainable recycle baseless attacks that go back as far as the 1930s, says Merton C. Bernstein, LLB, a nationally recognized expert on Social Security.

Men's soccer hosts Birmingham Southern

The No. 7 men’s soccer team improved to 4-0 thanks to a 1-0 overtime win at Principia College Sept. 6 and a 3-0 victory at Rhodes College Sept. 10. WUSTL has allowed just two goals so far this season. The Bears return to action at 7 p.m. tonight when they host Birmingham Southern College at Francis Field.
