Medical researchers study link between depression, addiction

School of Medicine researchers have identified an important part of the pathway through which stress affects mood and motivation for drugs. The finding may prove useful in humans by providing new potential targets for drugs to treat problems related to stress.

Sukkah City STL hosted by Sam Fox School

In October, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, in partnership with St. Louis Hillel and The Museum of ImaJewnation, will host Sukkah City STL, a design competition and exhibition that reimagines the Sukkah, an ancient form of Jewish architecture, through the lens of contemporary art.

Syverud elected chair-elect of ABA committee

Kent D. Syverud, JD, dean of the School of Law and the Ethan A.H. Shepley University Professor, has been elected chair-elect of the Council of the American Bar Association’s Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.

University gets high marks in sustainability measurement

Washington University has earned a silver rating in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education inaugural Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) program. STARS is one of the first tools to attempt to holistically measure sustainability efforts on college campuses.

National safety council recognizes WUSTL, staff

Washington University, two administrators and a School of Medicine department have received safety awards from the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) and the National Safety Council. WUSTL was recognized with CSHEMA’s 2011 Complete Safety Program Award of Merit for excellence in the university’s institutional safety and compliance programs.

Farmers Market continues into the fall

The Farmers Market at Washington University Medical Center will continue into the fall with seasonal fruits and vegetables, nuts, olive oil, cheeses and other items. The market is open every Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Hope Plaza outside the BJC Institute of Health.

Former Olympian joins women’s soccer staff

The women’s soccer team has added former U.S. National Team player and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Lori Chalupny to its staff as an assistant coach for the 2011 season. Chalupny, a St. Louis native, earned 92 caps with the U.S. National Team and played in four games for the gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic soccer team in 2008.
