Food price crisis contributes to poor nutrition

Food prices are beginning to creep up to crisis levels most recently seen in 2007. “Coupled with the financial crisis, high food prices can take a significant toll on nutrition, especially in developing countries,” says Lora Iannotti, PhD. “The same consequences can be true for wealthier countries, as households opt for less expensive, poor-quality foods.” FULL STORY

Competitive Fellowship Leave program ‘change for the better’

Gary S. Wihl, PhD, dean of the faculty of Arts & Sciences, recognized challenges faculty were having in accepting highly competitive fellowships and instituted a Competitive Fellowship Leave program. Manske, orthopedic hand surgeon, 72

Paul R. Manske, MD, professor of orthopaedic surgery, died April 20, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of an extended illness. He was 72. Manske, a hand surgeon at WUSTL since the late 1960s, was chairman of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery from 1983-1995. FULL STORY

  • Baseball drops three games at Chicago, returns home to face Millikin. The baseball team lost three games of a tripleheader against the University of Chicago April 25 with scores of 17-3 in the first game, 7-4 in the second, and 5-4 in the third. The Bears (25-16) return to action at 3 p.m. today when they host Millikin University.
