WUSTL partners with St. Louis Winter Outreach

WUSTL is partnering with St. Louis Winter Outreach to help the homeless when temperatures dip below 21 degrees. There are many ways members of the WUSTL community can join the effort — from collecting coats and blankets to assisting in the AmeriCorps emergency shelter.

Picture this: Happy 200th, William Greenleaf Eliot!

Jeffery Matthews, professor of the practice in the Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences, portrays WUSTL co-founder William Greenleaf Eliot during a recognition of Eliot’s 200th birthday. Students in the William Greenleaf Eliot Residential College celebrated the party Dec. 5, with Chancellor Emeritus William H. Danforth joining in the fun.

Colditz receives cancer society’s top honor

Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, a disease prevention expert at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WUSTL, has received the Medal of Honor for cancer control research from the American Cancer Society.

Remarks made during the recently settled NBA lockout brought the subject of race and sports back into the forefront of discussion. Gerald Early’s A Level Playing Field: African American Athletes and the Republic of Sports, is a series of essays that gives historical perspective to the issue of race and sports.

Track and field opens indoor season

The men’s and women’s track and field teams won 12 events and posted three NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks to open their indoor seasons Dec. 2 at the Illinois Wesleyan First Chance Meet in Bloomington, Ill. Both teams return to action in January.
