2012 i teach offers faculty exchange of ideas

Most faculty members teach a full coarseload  but can have limited opportunities to discuss teaching with colleagues outside of their department. WUSTL’s i teach, the biennial symposium on teaching, provides such an opportunity. The 2012 symposium — free and open to all WUSTL faculty — takes place from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in Seigle Hall.

Picture this: Recognizing outstanding faculty

Faculty Achievement Award winners Wayne M. Yokoyama, MD, and Erik Trinkaus, PhD, listen before the award ceremony Dec. 3 at Simon Hall. The ceremony also honored Chancellor’s Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship winners Jonathan S. Turner, PhD, and Jerome R. Cox Jr., ScD. The ceremony was followed by the annual Chancellor’s Gala.

Sing along to Handel’s Messiah this Sunday

The Department of Music in Arts & Sciences will present its annual sing-along of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio Messiah at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in Graham Chapel. The performance, which lasts about an hour, will include the Christmas portion of Messiah as well as the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Medical campus renewal ideas on display

Employees at the Washington University Medical Center are invited to view a gallery of presentation boards and models for the campus renewal process. The gallery will be open through Dec. 22 on the second floor of the BJC Institute of Health at Washington University School of Medicine from 7-9 a.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays or 2-4 p.m. Thursdays.

Playtime, by Jacques Tati, is the second of three films that offer distinct visions of space, both social and architectural, and the shape of everyday life in a dramatically altered future. University College Preview Night Dec. 8

University College will host a Preview Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in Holmes Lounge, Ridgley Hall. The evening features speakers discussing class and program offerings, admissions requirements and financial aid. Spring classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.

Women’s basketball wins McWilliams Classic

Senior Dani Hoover scored a career-high 24 points in a 70-47 win over Augustana College Dec. 2, and followed that with 17 points in a 70-58 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College to help the women’s basketball team win the McWilliams Classic.
