WUSTL named a top producer of Fulbrights

Washington University recently was named one of the top producers of U.S. Fulbright students, based on outcomes of the 2011-12 competition. The Fulbright Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program, recently announced the complete list of top-producing colleges and universities in the The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Essayist Rebecca Brown to read Thursday

In American Romances, Rebecca Brown bobs and weaves through 300 years of American history, mixing social and literary critique with pop culture, autobiography, playful fantasy and misremembered movie plots. She riffs on the stories we tell and the stories we don’t. At 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, Brown will read for The Writing Program’s fall Reading Series.

WUSTL Dining Services: There’s an app for that

An Apple mobile application called WUSTL Dining — which allows potential diners to check out menu items at each WUSTL Dining Services location — now is available at the Apple App Store. The new app is free and also allows users to find WUSTL Dining Services locations and view nutritional information on menu items on their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Obituary: Middelkamp, professor emeritus of pediatrics, 86

J. Neal Middelkamp, MD, professor emeritus of pediatrics, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at his home in St. Louis following a brief illness. He was 86.

All WUSTL students are invited to the Etiquette Dinner Program, an opportunity to enjoy a three-course meal while learning the basics of fine dining. The dinner is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the Danforth University Center Orchid Room. Registration must be made at the Career Center by Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Volleyball wins UAA title

The No. 3 WUSTL volleyball team defeated No. 2 Emory University in the University Athletic Association title match Nov. 5. The conference title is the school-record 20th in WUSTL history, and the first since 2008. The win also gives the Bears the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament, which begins Friday, Nov. 11.
