Drug clears chronic urinary infections in mice

An experimental treatment for urinary tract infections has easily passed its first test in animals, alleviating weeks-long infections in mice in as little as six hours. The results of the School of Medicine study, led by Scott J. Hultgren, PhD, were published yesterday in Science Translational Medicine.

The WashU Bhangra team performs at Edison Theatre this past weekend as part of the Diwali “Festival of Lights” celebration. Ashoka, WUSTL’s South Asian student association, presents the annual event, one of the largest student-run productions on campus.

A cappella meets architecture this Sunday

For 56 seasons, the St. Louis Chamber Chorus — which describes itself as the area’s only “itinerant choir” — has devised a cappella programs that allow audiences to both visually and acoustically explore St. Louis’ most architecturally significant venues. On Sunday, Nov. 20, the group will pay its first visit to Washington University’s 560 Music Center.

Brown receives dean’s medal from law school

Kent D. Syverud, JD, law dean and the Ethan A.H. Shepley Distinguished University Professor, presented the Dean’s Medal to alumnus Mel F. Brown, JD, Nov. 9 at the annual Scholars in Law dinner. The Dean’s Medal is the highest honor a dean can bestow upon a graduate of the law school.

Football wins Founders Cup

The football team piled up a season-high 490 yards of total offense in a 38-20 victory over the University of Chicago Nov. 12. With the win, WUSTL regained possession of the Founders Cup, which commemorates the first  game played between the two schools.
