The Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences presents an original adaptation of Anatol, Arthur Schnitzler’s strikingly modern deconstruction of a dapper but self-deluding would-be Don Juan. The show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday in the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre and runs through Sunday, Nov. 20.

An operation for preventing repeat strokes in high-risk patients has failed in a multi-institutional clinical trial, led by Colin P. Derdeyn, MD, professor of radiology at the School of Medicine. Results are reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

A field of 18 teams was narrowed to just eight finalists during the annual Olin Cup “elevator pitch” competition Nov. 10. In September, 40 teams began the competition — sponsored by the Olin Business School and the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies — vying for $70,000 in seed money.

The Center for the Humanities and Program in Film & Media Studies, both in Arts & Sciences, will host the Eighth Annual Children’s Film Showcase Nov. 18, 19 and 20. Titled “An Exploration of Children’s Films and Their Audiences,” the showcase is presented in conjunction with Cinema St. Louis as part of the 20th Annual St. Louis International Film Festival.

The No. 2 women’s cross country team won the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Nov. 12, while the No. 3 men’s team finished as runner-up. By finishing in the top two in the regionals, both teams earned automatic bids to the 2011 NCAA championship meet Saturday, Nov. 19, in Winneconne, Wis.
