Staff, faculty eligible for study abroad program

To increase appreciation of global diversity, a new program funds a weeklong study abroad program for staff and faculty. The program is open to all employees. Selected applicants will visit one of two WUSTL Overseas Programs locations: Shanghai, China, or Paris, France. Applications are due by Dec. 1.

Vitamin D relieves joint, muscle pain for breast cancer patients

High-dose vitamin D relieves joint and muscle pain for many breast cancer patients taking estrogen-lowering drugs, according to a new study from the School of Medicine. The drugs, known as aromatase inhibitors, are commonly prescribed to shrink breast tumors fueled by the hormone estrogen and help prevent cancer recurrence.

Olin helps veterans get down to business

Olin Business School aggressively seeks and recruits students with military backgrounds like Tod Stephens, who is in the joint MBA/JD program. The school recently became a full partner in the Yellow Ribbon Program, in which tuition costs are covered jointly by Olin and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

WUSTL receives Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Explorations funding

Yinjie Tang, PhD, the Francis Ahmann Career Development Assistant Professor in energy, environmental & chemical engineering, has won funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to pursue an innovative global health research project, titled “Using Fecal Sludge for Butanol Fermentation.”

The Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design, part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, has been ranked 4th in the nation, according to DesignIntelligence, which publishes an annual guide, America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools.
