Sukkah City STL winning designs chosen

Ten cutting-edge Sukkahs by architects and designers from around the nation will be on display Oct. 18-22 on the WUSTL campus. The projects are winners of Sukkah City STL, an ambitious contemporary design competition that challenged participants to reimagine the traditional Jewish Sukkah through the lens of contemporary art and architecture.

Preterm infants exposed to stressors in NICU display reduced brain size

School of Medicine researchers, including Terrie E. Inder, MD, show that exposure to stressors in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is associated with alterations in the brain structure and function of very preterm infants.

Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton cuts the ribbon Sept. 28 to celebrate the Campus Store’s recent reopening after an extensive renovation. The renovation was completed this past summer.

Sam Fox School announces faculty grants

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts has announced the recipients of its 2011 Faculty Creative Activity Research Grants. Four art and architecture faculty members will each receive between $1,000 and $8,000 to support a variety of projects.

Privacy lawsuits in the United States usually seek damages against the media for revealing embarrassing but true facts — the so-called “disclosure tort” — but this is a “poor vehicle for grappling with the problems of privacy and reputation in the digital age,” says Neil M. Richards, JD, privacy law expert and professor at the School of Law.

A memorial service has been set for James E. McLeod, vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, who passed away Sept. 6. He will be remembered by the university community at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Field House. The service will be streamed live via the Internet.

Cross country competes in Louisville Classic

The men’s and women’s cross country teams both turned in strong performances at the 10th Annual Greater Louisville Classic Oct. 1 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. Both teams have a week off before returning to action Oct. 15 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational.
