Stephen H. Legomsky, JD, DPhil, the John S. Lehmann University Professor at the School of Law, has been appointed chief counsel for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, effective Oct. 24. Legomsky is an internationally renowned scholar on U.S., comparative and international immigration, refugee and citizenship law and policy.

WUSTL is one of 32 colleges and universities joining a national initiative to reduce high-risk drinking on campuses. Through comprehensive evaluation and measurement techniques, The Learning Collaborative on High-Risk Drinking will identify and implement the most effective ways to tackle an issue affecting nearly four out of 10 college students nationally.

As the fall keynote speaker for the John C. Danforth Center on Religion & Politics, E.J. Dionne, PhD, will present his thoughts on “Can Religion and Politics Make Us More Civil and Not Just Angry?” His talk, which also is an Assembly Series program, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, in Graham Chapel.

The School of Medicine has opened a new Center for History of Medicine to stimulate student and faculty studies of the ways progress takes place in medicine and science. The center is on the sixth floor of Washington University’s Bernard Becker Medical Library.

WUSTL will test its emergency notification system, WUSTLAlerts, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. The WUSTLAlerts test will take place unless there is the potential for severe weather that day or some other emergency is occurring at that time. For the test, WUSTLAlerts will send emails to @wustl.edu addresses, text messages to cell phones and voice messages to cell phones.
