Take a walk on the second floor of North Brookings Hall, and you’ll see a different take on a familiar face in the Bridge Conference Room. A painting of Robert S. Brookings, president of WUSTL’s Board of Trustees from 1895-1928, arrived in September and now hangs on the west-facing wall. The portrait was painted in 1905 by noted American Impressionist artist Richard E. Miller.

James E. McLeod, vice chancellor for students and dean of the College of Arts & Sciences who died Sept. 6, was remembered through song and speech during three events at WUSTL this past week, including an intimate Liederabend with baritone Sidney Outlaw (right) Oct. 9. The performance was dedicated to McLeod, who initiated the first Liederabend at WUSTL nearly 30 years ago.

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education named WUSTL as the winner of its “Best Lessons Learned Case Study Award” Oct. 11. “Getting to Net-Zero: Lessons Learned from a Living Building Challenge,” outlined “the mistakes, corrections, and lessons learned” at the Living Learning Center at Tyson Research Center.

Andreas Schloenhardt, PhD, associate dean and associate professor of law at the University of Queensland TC Beirne School of Law, presents “Be Careful What You Pay For: Trafficking in Persons in Australia,” Oct. 7 in Anheuser-Busch Hall. Schloenhardt’s lecture was part of a visit to WUSTL by a delegation from the Australian law school.

The School of Medicine will celebrate Campus Sustainability Week Oct. 17-21 with various speakers and information stations around the campus. The week — along with national Campus Sustainability Day, Thursday, Oct. 20 — is held to bring attention to the achievements and challenges for students, faculty and staff in working to instill sustainability principles in higher education institutions and their surrounding communities.
