This year’s Eliot Society “Search” Award was given to Sima and Philip Needleman for their extraordinary dedication to Washington University. The award was given May 11 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Clayton, Mo.

Blast-related injuries detected in the brains of U.S. military personnel

An advanced imaging technique has revealed that some U.S. military personnel with mild blast-related traumatic brain injuries have abnormalities in the brain that have not been seen with other types of imaging. The abnormalities were found in the brain’s white matter, the wiring system that nerve cells in the brain use to communicate with each other.

Owens receives Gloria White service award

In 32 years at the School of Law, Beverly M. Owens, assistant director for faculty support, has supported the education and research endeavors of thousands of law faculty members and students. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, Owens was recognized with the Gloria W. White Distinguished Service Award at a May 23 Staff Day ceremony in Edison Theatre.

Picture this: Sharing their Stuff

Graduating senior Frances Fei and her father drop off a TV and other items for donation to the Share Our Stuff “Lightening Your Load” event May 21 at the Academy Building. That day, WUSTL students in the process of moving out and other community members could donate unneeded items to Goodwill rather than throw them away.

Danforth Campus parking changes for 2011-12

Faculty, staff and students who wish to park vehicles on the Danforth Campus during the upcoming 2011-12 academic year must renew their parking permits. Permits for the 2010-11 academic year expire Thursday, June 30. Permits can be renewed online at parking.wustl.edu or at the Parking and Transportation Services office on North Campus.

19th annual W Club Golf Scramble

Hosted by WUSTL Dept. of Athletics. Proceeds benefit WUSTL student-athlete programs. Entry fee is $325 per golfer, which includes greens fees, golf cart, driving range, lunch, cocktails, dinner and awards. Meadowbrook Country Club in Ballwin, Mo. Joe Worlund at joew@wustl.edu or (314) 935-5247.
