Five to receive honorary degrees
WUSTL will award five honorary degrees during the 150th Commencement beginning at 8:30 a.m. May 20 in Brookings Quadrangle. Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel will deliver the Commencement address and receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree. The other honorary degree recipients are John H. Biggs, PhD; Shirley Ann Jackson, PhD; Griffin P. Rodgers, MD; and George W. von Mallinckrodt. FULL STORY

Chinese officials turning against formal law
In the late 20th century, Chinese authorities enacted sweeping legal reforms, but in recent years, officials have stepped back from reforms in the face of increasing citizen protests and concerns about social stability. Chinese Party and court authorities have begun to move away from the reform track of the last several decades, says Carl Minzner, JD, an expert on Chinese law and associate professor of law. Treating cancer through art
A group of adults meets regularly in a room at the Center for Advanced Medicine at Washington University Medical Center to learn how to shade with charcoals, master watercolor strokes, and mold and shape clay. These students may be rediscovering art after many years or learning techniques for the first time. But they also share another common bond — battling cancer. FULL STORY

- Softball doubles up on fun. The Bears posted a doubleheader sweep of Westminster College April 13. Sophomore Alex Fjeldheim had three hits in the first game and freshman Kelsey Neal added three hits and three RBIs in the second. WUSTL (26-7-1) hosts Missouri Baptist University in another doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday, April 22.
