Preparing employees for high-demand nursing jobs

The pre-nursing program at University College gives School of Medicine employees and other working adults the academic foundation to enter a bachelor’s of nursing program. The program is flexible, feasible and for most university employees, free. 

Brown School student helps support Ukrainian refugees

Aytakin Huseynli, a postdoctoral researcher at the Brown School, helped create a network to support families who fled from the war in Ukraine to Bulgaria. The group first offered individual social work consultations for families and now is helping caseworkers facing burnout.

Drug for rare form of ALS approved by FDA

A new drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for a rare, inherited form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The drug, based in part on research conducted at the School of Medicine, slows progression of the deadly, paralyzing disease.

Notables

Tori Harwell, a junior in Arts & Sciences, has been named a Udall Scholar, an honor bestowed on students who have demonstrated leadership in the areas of the environment and conservation, tribal public policy or Native American health care.

Abhinav Jha, an assistant professor at the McKelvey School of Engineering and the School of Medicine, and his collaborators developed and evaluated two methods to quantitatively determine the realism of synthetic, or computer-generated, medical images.
