WashU faculty awarded Taylor Geospatial Institute funding

Faculty from Arts & Sciences, the McKelvey School of Engineering and the School of Medicine received seed grants and other funding from the Taylor Geospatial Institute totaling more than $950,000. The funds are designed to encourage collaborative research and advance geospatial science.

The 2023 Day of Dialogue and Action event takes place April 27 at Emerson Auditorium in Knight Hall on the Danforth Campus. All WashU faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend and engage in conversations about equity, diversity and inclusion.

McPherson wins Guggenheim Fellowship

Edward McPherson, an associate professor of English in Arts & Sciences, has won a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. The award will provide McPherson, an award-winning author, with support for his new nonfiction book.

New approach targets leading cause of foodborne infection

Researchers at the School of Medicine have found a creative way to make a vaccine for norovirus, the leading cause of foodborne infections, by piggybacking on rotavirus, an unrelated virus for which there are already several highly effective vaccines.

A new research project at WashU will study the history of Chinese Americans and Japanese Americans in St. Louis. The project, “Asia in St. Louis: A Story Map Dedicated to the Greater Saint Louis Community,” won a $10,000 grant from the Missouri Humanities council.

William Pickard, senior professor of engineering, 90

William Pickard, a senior professor of electrical and systems engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering, died March 9 in Portland, Ore., after a short illness. He was a faculty member for more than 50 years.
