Black Anthology’s ‘Change Gon’ Come’ opens Friday

Black Anthology, a production by WashU undergraduate students founded in 1989, will present its 2023 performance, “Change Gon’ Come,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, in Edison Theatre. The production will highlight the struggles that generations of African Americans have faced in their neighborhoods and in life. A pre-show panel discussion will take place at 6:15 p.m. each night.

‘Creolizing the Modern’ book celebration

Anca Parvulescu, of Arts & Sciences, will discuss her new book, “Creolizing the Modern: Transylvania Across Empires,” which draws from literary studies and sociology to examine the history of Transylvania in a global context. Duncker Hall, Hurst Lounge.

MLA Lecture Series: Crickette Sanz

2–3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11

Crickette Sanz, a professor of biological anthropology in Arts & Sciences, will discuss social relations between chimpanzees and gorillas in the Congo Basin. The virtual event will continue the series’ focus on bridges and divides.

A Cappella Midwest quarterfinal

7–10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11

The St. Louis region’s top a cappella ensembles will compete for a chance to perform at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Midwest semifinal. 560 Music Center, E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall.

Scholar Brown to discuss critical race theory

11:45 a.m.–1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10

Kevin Brown, of the University of South Carolina, will give the keynote for the School of Medicine Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’s “Inclusive Excellence Speaker Series.” Brown, one of the original scholars who developed critical race theory, will share the theories and thought behind it. A Q&A session will follow. In-person attendance has reached capacity, but participants can attend virtually.

University Libraries, the Bernard Becker Medical Library and the Institute for Informatics have joined together again for a series of virtual presentations and workshops Feb. 13-17.
