First-year medical students receive white coats

Members of the entering Class of 2022 at the School of Medicine received their white coats, a symbolic rite of passage, in a ceremony last week. This year’s 124-member class is the school’s most diverse in terms of race and ethnicity, gender and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Faculty collaboration brings poems to English readers

Mary Jo Bang and Matthias Göritz, both professors in Arts & Sciences, worked together for years to create a “perfect” translation of Göritz’s early poems. They will discuss the project and the resulting work, “Colonies of Paradise,” tonight.

John F. DiPersio, MD, PhD, the Virginia E. and Sam J. Golman Endowed Professor of Oncology at the School of Medicine, is being recognized by the American Italian Cancer Foundation with the 2022 Prize for Scientific Excellence in Medicine.

Mark Lawrence, at the McKelvey School of Engineering, received a $100,000 grant from the Optica Foundation for research into high-resolution meta-reflect arrays with low power consumption.
