PAD presents US premiere of Hsu Yen Ling’s ‘The Dust’

The Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences will present the U.S. premiere of “The Dust” by Taiwanese playwright Hsu Yen Ling. Comprised of six short, genre-bending scenes, the play explores what Hsu calls “the instant of explosion.” Performances are this weekend, Nov. 17-20, in the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre, Mallinckrodt Center.

The Weidenbaum Center will host a special forum analyzing the outcomes of the midterm elections featuring WashU faculty members Travis Crum, Matthew Hayes, Andrea Katz, Michael Olson and Andrew Reeves. Anheuser-Busch Hall, Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom.

Annual Display of Rare Anatomical Texts

2–4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29

For the first time in three years, Becker Library’s Archives and Rare Books Division will host the Annual Display of Rare Anatomical Texts in person. The exhibit is a unique opportunity to see a selection of spectacular medical works dating from the Renaissance to the 20th century up close. Bernard Becker Medical Library.

‘Translating poetry (it’s not easy)’: Matthias Goeritz and Mary Jo Bang

5:30–7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30

University Libraries will host an event to celebrate the publication of “Colonies of Paradise” by Matthias Goeritz, and translated by Mary Jo Bang, both in Arts & Sciences. Goeritz and Bang will discuss the innovative new translation of the original German work. Olin Library, Ginkgo Reading Room.

Exhibits and ongoing events

‘Leaving China: An artist paints his World War II childhood’

This exhibition of work by accomplished artist James McMullan focuses on watercolor paintings about his childhood during World War II. Artist’s materials and artifacts are also included. Organized by D.B. Dowd Modern Graphic History Library Curator Skye Lacerte, in collaboration with James McMullan, the exhibit remains on display in Olin Library’s Thomas Gallery through Dec. 18.
