‘Here and Next’ event to focus on forging St. Louis partnerships

As part of the kickoff of the “Here and Next” strategic plan, a panel of WashU faculty will provide an in-depth look at how the university’s research, education and practice can contribute to the region. The work will focus on St. Louis’ racial inequalities, improving health outcomes, economic mobility and educational opportunity. The virtual event will take place at noon today.

Experts from WashU’s Admissions & Aid team will answer parents’ questions about the process of researching and applying to college, as well as understanding financial aid, in an online session for university faculty and staff.

‘A Conversation on Race and Computing’

4–5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18

The Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity welcomes Safiya Noble, author of “Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism,” as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar for a conversation on race and computing. Last year, Noble received a MacArthur “genius grant” Fellowship for her groundbreaking work on algorithmic discrimination. The event will take place in Umrath Hall Lounge.

Join the Office of Information Security for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a virtual series focused on helping the campus community stay safe online. Featured topics will include information security, careers in cybersecurity and phishing incidents.
