Study finds gorillas, chimps have social relationships

Drawn from more than 20 years of observations in the Republic of Congo, a study led by primatologist Crickette Sanz in Arts & Sciences documented social ties between individual gorillas and chimpanzees that persisted over years and across contexts.

Washington University has licensed the rights to develop, manufacture and commercialize its proprietary COVID-19 nasal vaccine in the United States, Europe and Japan to Ocugen Inc., a U.S.-based biotechnology company.

Artist Chakaia Booker’s work installed on campus

As a young sculptor, Chakaia Booker collected scraps of ruined tires from Manhattan streets. The material was ubiquitous, malleable and symbolically resonant. Now the project “Shaved Portions,” one of Booker’s most ambitious, has been installed on the Danforth Campus.

Arts & Sciences’ Calvin Lai received a $230,000 grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation to lead an interdisciplinary effort to develop discrimination interventions. The team plans to engage with participants’ emotional and cognitive understanding.
