Lew lab sheds new light on cell membranes

Researchers in the lab of Matthew Lew at the McKelvey School of Engineering are using light in novel ways to better image biological samples. The research was published in the journals Optica and Nano Letters.

The McKelvey School of Engineering’s Lan Yang has been selected to receive the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award. Given by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the award recognizes distinguished scientists in any discipline.

Guoyan Zhao, assistant professor in neuroscience at the School of Medicine, received a $433,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to apply a cutting-edge imaging technology to study subcellular features of brain tissue from Alzheimer’s patients.
