Speakers scheduled for schools’ Commencement celebrations

Several distinguished speakers, faculty members and student leaders will take part in schools’ Commencement recognition celebrations for the Class of 2022 May 18-20 at Washington University. Astronaut Mae Jemison, the first woman of color to travel into space, will deliver the address for the universitywide Commencement, which will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, May 20, on Francis Olympic Field.

The School of Law welcomes Juan Carlos Pinzon, Colombian ambassador to the United States, for a presentation celebrating 200 years of relations between Colombia and the U.S. Anheuser-Busch Hall, Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom.

1–5 p.m. Thursday, May 12

The Department of Molecular Microbiology at the School of Medicine will host a symposium honoring Nobel laureate Charles M. Rice. The event will feature experts from universities across the country. Eric P. Newman Education Center Auditorium, Medical Campus.

University City Public Art Series opening celebration

4–6 p.m. Friday, May 13

Photography students from the Sam Fox School will showcase 12 images of this year’s University City Public Art Series Project, which was installed in Heman Park along the pathways bordering River Des Peres. Centennial Commons, Century Room, 7210 Olive Blvd.

The Black Rep presents ‘Jitney’

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company will continue its 45th anniversary season with performances of “Jitney” by August Wilson through May 29. The play chronicles Black American history through the lens of the Hill District in Pittsburgh. The show is directed by Arts & Sciences’ Ron Himes, founder of The Black Rep. Mallinckrodt Center, Edison Theatre.
