‘Requiem of Light’ in Forest Park Saturday

‘Requiem of Light’ in Forest Park Saturday

More than 5,000 St. Louisans have died during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday, April 23, a communitywide memorial service, organized by WashU’s Rebecca Messbarger, will take place in Forest Park. The event will include original music, guest speakers and the ceremonial lighting of 1,500 lanterns around the waters of the Grand Basin. Music will begin at 7:15 p.m., and the the lantern lighting will take place about an hour later.

Acclaimed soprano Angel Blue, fresh from starring roles in the Metropolitan Opera’s “Fire Shut Up in My Bones” and “Porgy and Bess,” will present an intimate recital, accompanied by pianist Douglas Sumi. E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall.

‘Tackling the opioid crisis’

The Olin Brookings Commission will host a discussion on the opioid crisis live from Washington, D.C. Data scientists from Olin Business School will present a powerful machine learning tool that can take aim at curbing the opioid epidemic. Knight Hall, Emerson Auditorium (with a virtual option).
