Diabetes, metabolic syndrome treated with novel compounds

School of Medicine researchers have shown in mice that a new class of compounds they developed can improve several aspects of metabolic syndrome. Such conditions often lead to cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide.

Luke installed as inaugural Horowitz Professor

Douglas Luke, a leading researcher in the areas of public health policy, systems science and tobacco control at the Brown School, has been installed as the inaugural Irving Louis Horowitz Professor in Social Policy.

Notables

Five researchers from the School of Medicine and one from the McKelvey School of Engineering have been named senior members of the National Academy of Inventors. They are: Richard Axelbaum, David T. Curiel, James W. Janetka, Gregory M. Lanza, Robi D. Mitra and Jennifer N. Silva.
