Former congressmen to discuss ‘democracy in danger’

The university community is invited to a virtual discussion with former U.S. congressmen Russ Carnahan, a Democrat, and Tom Coleman, a Republican, about voting rights and the threats facing American democracy, beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Media studies scholar Ian Bogost in Arts & Sciences gives a lecture on the theory and concepts of play and games. This lecture is his first of three talks in the 2021 Humanities Lecture Series, which continues Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 17 and 18.

The university’s Climate Change Program presents a panel discussion in Schnuck Pavilion on the impacts of climate change on Latin America. This talk is part of the Climate Conversation Series.

Artist Sheldon Scott performs

Thursday, Nov. 18– Friday, Nov. 19

The Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum presents “Portrait, number 1 man (day clean ta sun down),” a two-day performance by artist Sheldon Scott, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 18 and 19. An homage to Scott’s enslaved ancestors, the piece consists of the artist hulling and winnowing rice without break from sunrise to sunset.
