Schvey to give faculty book talk on ‘Blue Song’

Can you ever escape your past? Tennessee Williams spent a lifetime trying. His years in New York, New Orleans and Key West are the stuff of literary legend. But it was St. Louis where Williams lived longest, and St. Louis that shaped him as an artist and a person. So argues Arts & Sciences’ Henry I. Schvey in “Blue Song: St. Louis in the Life and Work of Tennessee Williams.” Schvey will discuss the book in a virtual talk for University Libraries at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Phillips Hospital,” for a virtual lecture on the hospital that served as a training ground for African American medical professionals.

Community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities

Mark A. Kelly, Brown School alumnus and licensed clinical social worker, will discuss his experience as an advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The virtual event is part of the “Inclusive Perspectives” series.

‘Colonizing the Past: Constructing Race in Ancient Greece and Rome’

Kathryn Wilson and Claudia Swan, both in Arts & Sciences, will join Margo Hendricks, of the University of California, for a conversation Nov. 2 in the Steinberg Hall Auditorium. The panel will discuss the critical issues raised by the fall Teaching Gallery exhibition on the topic of race in ancient Greece and Rome.
