Sam Fox School announces fall Public Lecture Series

Hugo Crosthwaite, whose stop-motion drawing animation “A Portrait of Berenice Sarmiento Chávez” won the National Portrait Gallery’s fifth triennial Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, will discuss his work Saturday, Sept. 11, with curator Taína Caragol. The talk marks the beginning of the Sam Fox School’s fall Public Lecture Series, which will include 16 virtual and in-person events with nationally and internationally renowned artists, architects, designers and scholars.

Jake Rosenfeld, professor of sociology in Arts & Sciences, will give a virtual presentation on his newest book, which challenges the idea that people are paid based on their performance and occupation.

‘Conservation and Community in Kenya’

12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15

The Brown School’s Carolyn Lesorogol will share study findings in a virtual event on the benefits, costs and impacts of community-based conservancies on pastoral livelihoods in Samburu County, Kenya.

Fink to speak for Ready Week

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink will give a virtual lecture Thursday, Sept. 16, for Ready Week. The Emergency Management Department hosts the biannual program, which begins Monday, Sept. 13. Ready Week will feature interactive events to promote emergency preparedness within the WashU community.

‘Moving Magic’ exhibit

This University Libraries exhibit explores pop-up books from the Rare Books Collection, which includes books with moving parts that have been around for centuries. The exhibit is on view through June in Olin Library’s Newman Tower of Collections and Exploration.
