Performing Arts gets ‘Tough’

Bobby, Jill and Tina gather around the picnic table. Their bickering drifts across Mudd Field. But fear not, this isn’t some end-of-year meltdown — it’s a live, un-miked, guerilla-style performance of George F. Walker’s provocative tragicomedy “Tough!” Performances will take place today through Sunday, April 25, on Mudd Field, near Graham Chapel. Tickets are free, but reservations are required.

On Earth Day, climate scientist Bronwen Konecky in Arts & Sciences reports on efforts to fingerprint changes in the global water cycle over the past millennium, as well as implications for modern climate change, as part of the Living Earth Collaborative’s weekly seminar series.

Thurtene art show: ‘Dream On’

Saturday, April 24– Sunday, April 25

Thurtene, the Washington University junior honorary, hosts “Dream On,” a virtual art show and benefit auction, from noon Saturday, April 24, through Sunday, April 25. The art, which will be available to view starting at noon Friday, April 23, was submitted by local artists of all levels, from elementary school students to professionals.

Assembly Series on Pope Pius XII and the Holocaust

6 p.m. Monday, April 26

The Danforth Center on Religion and Politics welcomes David Kertzer, professor at Brown University, and the Rev. John Pawlikowski, of the Catholic Theological Union, for a discussion on the Vatican archives and the Catholic Church’s role in the Holocaust. Maharat Rori Picker Neiss, of the Jewish Community Relations Council of St. Louis, will moderate.

Talk on amplifying impact in St. Louis

The Social Policy Institute will launch a new initiative that explores the best strategies for using data to advance the mission of St. Louis organizations. Through this initiative, the institute will offer a series of free trainings and resources for a data-informed social sector.

Mindfulness and anti-racism series launches

Meshing mindfulness with anti-racism is the focus of a series of upcoming talks funded by the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity & Equity. The first virtual event features Rhonda Magee, professor of law at the University of San Francisco, on April 30. Magee’s talk will focus on the inner work of social justice.

Join undergraduate fellows Lydia McKelvie, Alice Nguyen and Hannah Ward for the latest installment of the Kemper Art Museum’s “In Conversation” series at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 28. The discussion will examine depictions of feminized labor among art and artists from the 19th century to present day.
