Sam Fox School announces guest speakers for spring lectures

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will host more than 20 virtual presentations by renowned artists, architects, designers and scholars as part of its spring Public Lecture Series. All events are free and open to the public. RSVPs are required. Events begin Saturday, Jan. 30, with a discussion about the work of Charles E. Fleming, one of the first African American students to earn an architecture degree from Washington University.

This town hall presented by HomeGrown StL, the Clark-Fox Policy Institute and community partners will address the impact of Black male safety, tools for actionable change and local efforts to improve safety in the St. Louis region.

‘Transforming St. Louis’

5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1

Join a webinar featuring alumna Kayla Reed, co-founder and director of Action St. Louis and lead strategist in the Movement for Black Lives, and Blake Strode, executive director of ArchCity Defenders, who will discuss how their organizations are sparking action and changing structures in the region. John Robinson III in Arts & Sciences will serve as moderator.

Disruption and Innovation in Healthcare 3.0

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2

Olin Business School’s Annual Healthcare Symposium presents panels on innovation in health care and the challenges the industry has faced as a result of COVID-19. Discussions include the “Future of Drug Development” and “Innovation and Operational Excellence in the Delivery of Care.”

Take part in STL 2030 Jobs Plan panel discussion

Noon Monday, Feb. 1

The university community is invited to an online discussion exploring a new proposal aimed at creating more jobs in the St. Louis region during the coming decade. Among the participants are Executive Vice Chancellor Henry Webber, Chancellor Emeritus Mark Wrighton and others. The university’s Social Policy Institute and Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Civic Affairs and Strategic Planning are co-sponsoring the event.
