Growing up, Eric W. Carson, MD, now professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the School of Medicine, didn’t think that African Americans could become doctors. But he became a physician and chose a specialty noted for its lack of diversity. Today, he looks for opportunities to increase diversity and mentorship in medicine.

Research conducted by Jacob Holland-Lulewicz, lecturer in archaeology in Arts & Sciences, was named one of the Top 10 Discoveries of 2020 by Archaeology Magazine. His findings were published in American Antiquity during the summer. 
Washington University has been awarded a Level 2 accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and the Morton Arboretum for achieving standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens.
