Harris Institute celebrates 20 years with virtual gala, keynote address

The Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute’s 20th anniversary virtual gala Wednesday, Nov. 18, will kick off with a keynote address by this year’s World Peace Through Law Award recipient, Patricia Viseur Sellers. An international criminal lawyer and visiting professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Sellers will discuss “Peace as the Deal-Breaker.”

‘After the Election: Feminist and Queer Possibilities’

3–4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13

The Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in Arts & Sciences hosts a student-led discussion on this year’s election and its implications for feminist and queer issues. The discussion also will address politics and collective mobilization.

Nancy E. Berg of Arts & Sciences and Naomi B. Sakoloff of the University of Washington discuss their book, “Since 1948: Israeli Literature in the Making.” The book considers a variety of topics that have shaped Israeli culture and literature.

Mika Rottenberg lecture

The Sam Fox School welcomes video artist Mika Rottenberg, who will give the Bunny and Charles Burson Visiting Lecture. Rottenberg creates video and installation work focusing on physically unusual women performing tasks that take advantage of their characteristics.

Medical Campus partners have collaborated to present a week of events centered on belonging and the power of connecting through crisis. Amber Johnson, of Saint Louis University and co-founder of the Institute for Healing Justice and Equity, will deliver the keynote address Nov. 18.

Divided City Film Series

The Divided City program is sponsoring a series of free virtual film screenings through Nov. 22 during the St. Louis International Film Festival. The themes of each film will focus on the racial divide in St. Louis and other cities. Some also feature Q&As with scholars or filmmakers. The Divided City is an urban humanities initiative of Washington University.
