Addressing pandemic’s impact on cancer care
A consortium of 17 U.S. cancer centers, including Siteman Cancer Center, are working together to better understand the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in delaying cancer detection, care and prevention.

Dugan named Freund Teaching Fellow
Photographer Jess T. Dugan will serve as the 2020-21 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow. The fellowship is jointly sponsored by the Saint Louis Art Museum and the university’s Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

Living Earth Collaborative seed grants awarded
The university’s Living Earth Collaborative has announced recipients of its latest seed grant funding. Six new grants will support collaborative research involving topics as diverse as citizen science with backyard bees, the diseases of apes and endangered frogs.

Brown School welcomes new faculty members
Eleven new faculty members have joined the Brown School this academic year. The new faculty increase the school’s strength in key areas, particularly social systems design research, policy, substance abuse and behavioral health.

WashU Expert on ‘anarchist jurisdictions’ designation
The U.S. Department of Justice has issued a list of “anarchist jurisdictions,” which it says permitted violence and property destruction to persist. If the administration withholds federal funds based on that designation, the withholding would be unconstitutional, argues constitutional law expert Greg Magarian.

Craig A. Buchman, MD, the Lindburg Professor and head of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the School of Medicine, has been elected president of the American Neurotology Society, an organization of specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the inner ear and skull base.

The university’s Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab, a joint initiative of the Brown School and Olin Business School, has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Ewing Marion Kaufman Foundation to begin CAP STL, a project to explore how entrepreneurship affects equity and mobility.

Taylor Carlson in Arts & Sciences has been awarded a Social Science Research Council Social Data Research Fellowship to study the extent to which user-generated content (i.e. comments) on social media platforms distorts information reported by mainstream news outlets.
